Belgium is very famous for Beers. There are over 400 beers. Therefore you can drink a beer everyday and never drink the same twice in a year. Brussels has hundreds of excellent bars and café's. The bars and café's listed on this page are either in the Grand Place area or in the Louise area. The following page is just a selection of the hundreds of bars and café's in Brussels.
Traditional Belgian Bars
A la Mort Subite:Very famous café and drink. This old bar is the home of the strong beer La Mort Subite. It's the kind of bar for older people but the decoration inside and the atmosphere is like an old traditional Belgian bar.
Address: Rue Montagne aux Herbes Potageres 7 in the Grand Place area.
Metro: Centrale or De Brouckere

L'ecuyer: A.K.A the Boot. It's the closest you will get from a typical contemporary Belgian bar. A bit tacky inside even though they recently refurbished and re-decorated the place. There are a few locals who are sitting at the bar it's best to leave them alone because they hate young people. Apart from that very reasonable prices. Dozens of special deals with drinks. Music is quite bad but not loud so it's a good place to have a chat. Plenty of seats, great place for a group of 5 to 10 people The house speciality: The Boot, A litre (2.2pints) of beer in a glass in the shape of a real size boot. The bar staff will warn you 5 times not to break it! It's very fragile and if you do break it it will cost you +/- 800BF.
Address: Rue de l'ecuyer, 3. (200m from the one above. Next to Virgin Megastore).
Metro: De Brouckere

A l'Imaige Nostre Dame: Very old bar hidden in the end of a small alleyway. This bar has old wooden tables and serves a wide variety of Belgian beers. The majority of people here are old. But this is a good way to have a drink and to feel like you are living in Brussels a couple of hundred years ago. The first picture below is a picture of the friendly bartender that works here and the second picture shows you the inside of this old bar.
Address: Rue Marché au Herbes, 8 (2 min walk from the Grand Place).
Metro: De Brouckere
International Bars
Brussels is the head of the European Union and NATO therefore there are many representatives from EU and NATO countries, embassies and private companies with European H.Q in Brussels. This explains the large international population.
O'Reilley's: As the name suggests this is an Irish Pub. This pub is very popular and very busy 7 days a week. 90% english speaking and a mix of nationalities. Great music, very big place, good atmosphere, young, and typical Irish pints of lager, cider or Guinness. Good place to go to when the weather is nice because it has seats and tables outside and an open air balcony. Prices are a bit more expensive than in a regular Belgian bar but it's worth it. Great place to meet people.
Address: Place de la Bourse. (Brussels stock exchange, 5 min walk from Grand Place).

Lop Lop: Very famous in Brussels. Also very international, not just English speaking. On two levels always busy during the week and packed on the weekends. Huge selection of drinks. There is actually a menu just for drinks! Quite good food. Sometimes on the weekend bands or solo musicians perform on the lower floor. Lot's of people from 18-25. Average Prices. Open until the next morning. Good mix of international people and Belgians.
Address: Rue de l'Ecuyer (5 min from Grand Place and next to Virgin Megastore and Bourse)
Metro: Centrale or De Brouckere
